OUR SPIRITUAL FOUNDATION
The key to understanding a Marist’s unique relationship with Mary is not found in any particular devotion or act of piety, even though these are important. The relationship between Mary and a Marist exists at a much deeper and more profound level. Marists identify with Mary. This reality is summed up for Marists by Jean Claude Colin in the following way: “So they must think as Mary, judge as Mary, feel and act as Mary in all things…”

Think, Judge, Feel, and Act as Mary
To be Marist is to let Mary shape our way of living the Gospel. Her presence invites us to see the world through her eyes, to discern with her heart, and to respond with her courage. This attitude transforms ordinary choices into moments of grace, making every action a reflection of Mary’s quiet fidelity and joyful trust in God.

Hidden and Unknown in the World
The Marist spirit is marked by humility and discretion, choosing the background rather than the spotlight. Like Mary at Nazareth, Marists work quietly, seeking no recognition, allowing God’s love to speak louder than their own voices. In this way, their presence becomes a gentle but powerful sign of the Gospel at work in everyday life.

Instruments of Divine Mercy
Marists are called to be channels of God’s tender compassion. Inspired by Mary, who stood close to those in need, they bring healing, reconciliation, and hope wherever they are sent. Their mission is not simply to speak of God’s mercy, but to embody it—becoming living witnesses of Christ’s boundless love for the world.

A Spirituality for Our Time
To live Marist spirituality is to allow Mary to form Christ in us, so that the Church may continue her mission in the world with her spirit of humility, compassion, and hope.
